Dr Pearse Keane

Pearse leads a programme of applied clinical research in artificial intelligence (AI) at Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. As part of this, he initiated the long-term collaboration between Moorfields NHS Foundation Trust and DeepMind. He works closely with the Moorfields Image Reading Centre on this and a number of other independent research projects.

Summary:

Dr Keane specialises in applied clinical and translational research, with a particular interest in the application of new technologies to health care. In April 2015, he was ranked no. 4 on a worldwide ranking of ophthalmologists under 40, published in “the Ophthalmologist” journal. In 2016, he initiated a formal collaboration between Moorfields Eye Hospital and Google DeepMind, with the aim of applying machine learning to automated diagnosis of optical coherence tomography (OCT) images.
